Hollesley Primary School (ages 5 to 11 years) is a community school run by Suffolk County Council. It stands
in its own extensive grounds by Hollesley parish church and enjoys magnificent views over the fields to the North

There has been a school in the village for more than 130 years, though not in the present building ! The school
serves the communities of Boyton, Capel St. Andrew, Shottisham, Sutton and Hollesley itself.
Currently (Autumn Term 2009), there are 52 pupils, 4 teachers and 6 teaching assistants.
In 2008, Ofsted found the school entirely satisfactory with good elements, which included behaviour of the pupils, the ethos of the school
and the care and guidance given to the pupils.

The school enjoys excellent relations with the pre-school playgroup whose children visit the school every week. There are equally excellent
links with the popular Farlingaye High School in Woodbridge for which Hollesley is a feeder school.

Recently, the staff has introduced a more creative curriculum based on the rich history and geography of the locality, thus bringing immediate
relevance and excitement to the children’s learning; this has resulted in their showing their work on the Alde and Ore rivers at Snape Maltings.
At the moment the whole school is developing its contact with the nearby Mary Warner Homes, Boyton, with an inter-generational project
involving music, dance and poetry.
Hollesley Trumpets are a key feature of the life of the school. They entertain at the Welcome Club for elderly residents, have performed at
Snape Maltings, have regular slots at the Maverick Festival as well as giving concerts at the school.
But the school does not simply concentrate on the arts; recently a science afternoon, which began with lunch, was greatly enjoyed by large
number of parent/carers and their children !
The extensive grounds are used for a wide range of sports, growing vegetables and nature-study, and there is a pond for wildlife and a
learner-pool for young swimmers.
The school is an important part of village life, participating in many events, such as the annual fete and entertaining elderly residents at the
village Welcome Club.
The use of the grounds is of special significance as the children have grown some of their own vegetables for use in the school kitchen (and
imagine how much maths came from the whole school weighing, counting and predicting outcomes). As well as the vegetable patch there
is a newly created wildlife area boasting a pond and a good range of plant life already. Every family has recently had the opportunity to plant
a sapling, which will bear the family name, to create a small copse at the end of the playing field.
The grounds have a hard surface for PE, a sandpit, an outdoor classroom, a learner swimming-pool and approximately 4 four acres for the
children to run around. All of which makes for a very active sporting-life for the school, with cross country, sports days and a wide range of
activities from an outside provider. The school offers a whole range of activities from chess to dance-drama, from breakfast club to after
school club, and from lunchtime art club to after-school gymnastics.
Whilst for the real youngsters there is a thriving Parent and Toddler group which meets in a new and improving family-friendly area in school,
for those of not so tender years, (i.e. retired people from the locality) an opportunity to hear children reading on a voluntary basis each week.
A parents/carers' group runs "Friends of Hollesley" to provide those extras through fundraising.

purpose-built building was opened in October 2007, and provides a safe and stimulating environment.
